A Vixen in Venice by Kate Deveaux: Interview and Excerpt

INTERVIEW

Welcome!   It’s wonderful to have you visit today!   Thanks for taking time out to answer a few questions.  Does travel play in the writing of your books?

Definitely. I have traveled extensively and I enjoy setting books in places I have lived in or visited for a significant period of time. I also love dreaming up settings that I haven’t quite made it to, a girl can dream can’t she?

Tell us about your current release.

I loved writing A Vixen In Venice. I write contemporary erotic romances, but this one is even more as it has an art caper at it’s heart. That element of intrigue was both challenging and fun to write.

Tell us about your next release.

My next release is ‘Cockpit’ due out this summer. The name says it all. Okay, now I’m just being cheeky. J Bad Kate. ‘Cockpit’ is different because the heroine is not only a mature woman, but she’s a commercial 747 pilot who is reunited with her high school sweetheart on a transatlantic crossing. Set on a 747 and then in London, I guarantee you’ll never look at the London Eye quite the same way again after Bobbi and Mack explore toe-curling voyeurism above the Thames.

Plotter or Pantser? Why?

I am a plotter, not a detailed one, but I do jot down a brief outline when I start on a new book. Names, places, themes, settings, etc. Then after I get that figured out, I write. The story evolves from there. I often return to my outline and notes to reconnect with the overall scope of the book part way through the book and closer to the end. Sometimes the characters have a mind of their own and take unexpected detours — that is just plain fun for me when my characters take over the page and the outline goes out the window.

What are your favorite TV shows?

I love Coronation Street. Anyone in the UK knows what this is and I enjoy shows like Broadchurch and Endeavor and I’m a HGTV junkie.

Do you play any sports?

Tennis. I finally found a sport I can wear a skirt to play.

What are you passionate about these days?

Family and friends. No matter what that is the most important thing in life.

Do you have any suggestions for beginning writers? If so, what are they?

I love to help new authors, as so many authors were simply wonderful to me when I was new to the business. I think the number one thing I tell new authors is ‘just write.’ Don’t worry about what other people say about what’s popular or your style or anything else. Just write. Later, they’ll learn much from a good editor, but for now, just enjoy the gift of writing and be proud of what they are capable of creating.

If you were stranded on an island what 8 things would you most want with you?

A really nice yacht with a full crew and a very full tank of gas. Okay I know that’s cheating. J Let’s start again.

Tea. Can’t live without it, the whole deserted island thing would start off very poorly if I didn’t have my cuppa.
Hat: Blondie can’t take that sun.
Cute bikini, a girl is gotta look good, even in the shade.
A knife, a really big one! (Maybe a full set of knives as long as we’re getting whatever we want).
Chopstick, that damn sun again.
Definitely Mr. Deveaux
A radio
A few photos of my friends and family.
Oh yeah, a cell phone with reception. Now that would come in handy.

ABOUT THE BOOK

A VIXEN IN VENICE
by Kate Deveaux

BLURB:

He’s an art thief on the run…with her heart

Look closer, into Hotel Totally Five Star Venice, where art curator Monique Le Bres has just walked through the doors of the newly opened swanky luxury hotel to assist with their art collection.

Alessandro Bonnard, the world-renowned art connoisseur and collector has been sent incognito to supervise Monique and oversee her acquisitions for the hotel.

Concealing his true identity, Alessandro is intrigued by the art-loving vixen with an appetite for kinky sex. He pursues Monique, charming her at every turn — taking her to places she’s never been — both in and out of bedroom.

Monique falls hard for the man who has utterly captured her body and soul. Only to find out he isn’t who she thought he was after all…he’s an art thief on the run…with her heart.

EXCERPT

Waiting a good half hour, Monique was quite sure the coast was clear after  her supervisor had departed. Weary from her travels she couldn’t wait to get back to her nice room and fall fast asleep in the sumptuous looking bed.

Stepping out of her office, Monique headed for the elevator at the end of the hall, noticing each door she passed had a nametag with identifiers. Sales the Direttore Vendite.  Food and Beverage. Diretorre del Marketing. Director of Marketing and so on.

The subdued hush of voices from an adjoining hallway made Monique stop in her tracks. Pausing, she listened. The soft giggles intrigued her. Tiptoeing towards the sound, she peered around the corner. Near the end of the hall, she glimpsed Donovan’s silhouette as he leaned against a woman, kissing her. His hands holding hers above her head as she hooked one long leg around his waist, pulling him closer to her as they embraced passionately.

Monique’s key slipped from her hand and tinkled noisily on the wood floor. Mouth agape, her cheeks flamed as Donovan looked up and nodded to her from down the long hallway. Then the woman looked at her too. Monique immediately recognized the young blonde with the pixie cut hair and the cute little body from the lobby. The one she’d seen Donovan pat on the ass when Monique had first arrived.

The young woman merely smiled at Monique, her legs still wrapped around her supervisor’s hips, and then returned to kissing Donovan. Running her hands along his wide shoulders before he spun her around and planted his hands on her ass, pulling her too him. Hard. Monique looked away, but then back again. Strangely aroused at the unbridled passion, she was aware her nipples peaked under her silk blouse as she watched his hands slide over her curves and slide up and then up and under her skirt.

He tugged the woman’s panties down.

She kicked them off with flair. Crumpled, the lace thong lay in the hall while the lovers went at it. Grabbing, tasting, and kissing. Monique was aware her own panties were moist, shocked by her own enjoyment at watching them. Hiking the woman’s skirt up further, Donovan pursued her, baring her sculpted thighs and making Monique’s body quiver as she watched when Donovan slid his fingers between the woman’s legs. A soft groan escaped his lover’s mouth as they kissed and she tugged impatiently at his belt.

Monique gulped an audible gulp. Donovan cocked at eye in her direction.  Monique quickly retreated, embarrassed to have been caught standing there enjoying spying on the lovers.
